(Rockford, IL, US) highlighted its recent successful partnership with the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM, Blairsville, PA, US) and Orbital ATK (Dulles, VA, US) on an automated inspection system completed for the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL, Dayton, OH). The newly developed Automated Composite Structure Inspection System (ACSIS), which consists of a camera, lamps and a line scanner mounted on the layup machine gantry, scans the layup to identify and fag faws. This enables inspections of parts made with automated fber placement in real-time while the composite structure is being fabricated, so defects and anomalies can be detected and repaired during the fabrication process. www.ingersoll.com
