company believes that carbon fber derived from its meso-
phase pitch will be on par with mesophase pitch-based
carbon fber now produced by other commercial companies.
ACP now manufactures its mesophase pitch on a pilot-
scale system and is moving forward with plans to build its
frst commercial plant, with a capacity of up to 10,000 MT/
year. In the meantime, the company is seeking commercial-
ization partners to help it evaluate the material in a produc-
tion environment.
In addition, ACP is ofering mesophase pitch samples
to Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL, Oak Ridge, TN,
US) and other research facilities to assess its performance.
Boyer says ACP can produce precursor with mesophase
pitch contents, ranging from 50 wt% to more than 90 wt%.
Most carbon fber manufacturing lines, he says, prefer
mesophase concentrations of 80-90 wt%.
