Western Carolina University's (WCU) Robert Stefen, Ph.D, P.E., who has worked for three years as the Guidelines committee chairman, agrees that architects, engineers and designers fnally have a document with applications-specifc information. Further, the frst Composites in Architecture Design Challenge show- cased unique projects that incorporate composite materials in new compo- nents and assemblies, developed by teams of architectural students from all over the US. Winners of the 2016 Challenge were announced each day, and submitted projects were displayed throughout the Pavilion. "The student designs were out- standing and their presence in the Composites Pavilion has been very intriguing to the attendees," said Bob Moft, product manager at Ashland Performance Materials (Columbus, OH, US) and the leader of Ashland's CompositeBuild.com initiative. "Overall the Composite Pavilion has energized conference attendees." Also new this year was Composites Central, presentations by composites experts on topics such as daylighting with composites, International Building Code requirements for FRP, durabil- ity of FRP and using composites for thermal break strategies in metal build- ings. Speakers included WCU's Stefen, Ashland's Moft, Andy Bridge (Janicki Industries, Sedro-Woolley, WA, US), and Nicholas A. Dembsey, Ph.D, P.E., Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
